From the moment I walked into my first Beauty Bus visit, I was inspired.
The client’s sister, who’s also her caregiver, greeted me at the door. I walked into the home and was introduced to the client, a middle-aged woman with ALS. Within minutes, we were all talking, laughing, and sharing stories as if we were all old friends. As the sisters were being pampered with manicures, it was apparent that their spirits (along with their nails) were brighter and shinier than when we arrived. They told me how nice it was to have company over and to socialize with new “buddies,” given how isolating having a disease can be. For them, it was a break from the hardships of disease, from doctors visits, and insurance paperwork; for me, it was a magical day, a day that reminded me how simple acts of kindness go a long, long way. I feel honored to be a Beauty Buddy and can’t wait to get back on the bus.

"My first experience as a Beauty Buddy was amazing. I was so excited and the experience far exceeded my expectations.
The woman that we visited suffered a spinal cord injury which has left her homebound. We were greeted at the door by her lovely caregiver and escorted upstairs to meet the client, a delightful woman. She expressed her lack of interest in life as it is today. Wonder of wonders, we chatted and visited about topics not related to her health. She said that the Beauty Bus visit and the wonderful pedicure that she received, thanks to a special beauty professional volunteer made her feel beautiful and gave her reason to keep on living. I was totally humbled by this event and spent the afternoon and evening on cloud nine. Thank you Beauty Bus for allowing me to be a part of your admirable efforts."
